It seems as though everyone is always on my case about tanning so I decided to go ahead and blog about it. Why in the world do I go tanning? I like to feel as if I have a healthy glow and do not look washed out when I wear certain colors. Another reason is it creates endorphins so I feel a lot better after a long day dealing with school or work. By no means am I saying that tanning is something anyone should ever start or even consider, I am just simply stating why I do it and the fact that it is hard to quit.
The article I read about tanning says that these endorphins cause a huge dependency and make it harder and harder to quit tanning as the years go on. Tanning happens when skin cells are damaged from harmful UV rays. Also I read it does not matter if your in a tanning bed or even in the real sun, the damage is just as bad anyway you slice it.
Have I ever stopped or tried to stop tanning? Yes, I have tried to stop tanning and I know that it is all in your mind to quit anything but I did for a few months and had really bad withdrawals because of it. I felt as if I was totally addicted so I eventually cut down the amount of times I go a week to once or twice as of right now.
The article goes on to mention that these withdrawals are often led to nausea and “jittery” feelings to for those who tan more often than others. I can say I have had both of these symptoms more than once and even while I am typing this I must say, this is shocking reality for me. Never has it really crossed my mind to just stop but for some reason I cannot stand the fact of being pale.
Will I ever stop? Im sure I will. I cannot see myself going much longer with these tanning beds. For more money and less cancer I am considering spray tans (airbrush) in the future well, near future. My goal is to quit tanning all together by the end of the year. I am pretty sure I’ve only been exposing myself on and off for three years or so. But for now I go once a week and will ask how much for airbrush tanning the next time I visit my salon
I can understand where you are coming from. I don’t tan that often but had been tanning for my sister’s wedding that took place this past weekend. Tanning really does make you feel better and usually gives good results. After my month package is over I won’t tan again until about Christmas and that will just be again to get some color for the holidays. I’ve also been thinking of doing the spray tans. My sister did one for her wedding and they have come a long way from when they first came out. They no longer have the orange look to them and you get results a lot faster.
I used to go tanning salons and I really enjoyed it. I would always get a lot of trash talk about going tanning from my friends but I didn’t care. I agree that tanning boosts your self-esteem, because you get more looks from girls, in my case, and for girls, more looks from guys. It does make you feel better about yourself. Plus, in my opinion, people look better with a tan, the tan doesn’t have to be extreme, but a little color is nice to have.
